After the city refused its request for an 82-foot sign, the developer of the hotel opening next week at Hampton and Wilson avenues is seeking a shorter sign.
Alderman Bill Waterhouse, D-24th Ward, who represents the area of the at the southwest corner of the intersection, told members of the Clifton Heights Neighborhood Association last week he supports the request of a shorter sign.
Association President Josh Wiese said he personally had no problem with the request of Charles Drury of Drury Development for a letter to the city from his group recommending approval of the sign for motorists along nearby Interstate 44.
However, Wiese said he wouldn't submit the request to his membership.
"I can tell you right now they wouldn't support it," he said.
The request for a shortened sign of about 72 feet received a chilly response when Waterhouse spoke in favor of it at a Clifton Heights meeting Jan. 28.
"Pole signs are tacky," said Kathy Herbig, a member of the association. "I don't mind him putting that sign up if it's a nice low sign."
Waterhouse said the sign would be about the same as other businesses on that corner but would be in a lower area than the others
